Point-Of-Use Automation and Control.
Big Cost-Savings for Cutting Tools
To help its customers achieve ever-greater productivity, cost-savings and process improvement, Seco Tools launches Asia-Pacific roll out of the next generation of Web-Based Point-Of-Use Dispensing Technology.
The traditional tool room is going the way of the dinosaur. Manufacturers driving hard to remain competitive, reduce costs and apply Lean Manufacturing principles are rapidly moving high-cost, high-use and mission-critical cutting tools and cutting tool accessories out onto the shop floor-close to the machine operators who need them.
Successfully implementing Point-Of-Use distribution requires new levels of control. Without control, tool usage goes up, stock-outs increase and process standards become compromised. The answer, as many best-in-class manufacturers have discovered, is to put the critical tools and supplies in controlled, automated Point-Of-Use dispensing systems. Often called, "Tool Vending Machines" or "Automatic Tool Dispensers", these systems are helping manufacturing companies around the world t
· Gain control of Point-Of-Use Inventories
· Reduce Tool Costs by 10-15% or more
· Eliminate waste and mis-used tools
· Reduce inventory levels by as much as 50%
· Automate reordering
· Achieve 100% compliance with process and quality standards
· Allow for 100% trace and cost allocation of every cutting tool used
The latest innovation in Point-Of-Use dispensing technology is the SmartDrawer™. Automation and control for the distribution of tools and supplies on the shop floor has never been available in such a flexible, versatile and low-cost solution. SmartDrawer technology can be added to new shop floor cabinets or retrofitted to existing cabinets. Electronically controlled lids create individual compartments for each item stored in the cabinet. A variety of cover configurations are available ranging from two to twenty-eight lids per cover.
Operators access a SmartDrawer-equipped cabinet using their ID badges or by entering their code on the touch screen interface which is called a "SupplyLink". The transaction is very much like using an ATM cash machine. Each operator has an "account" that provides access to a pre-determined list of items. Limits can be set for quantities available to particular operators. The system also prompts workers to enter process data such as job numbers, cost centers, work cells or machine numbers which can then be used to analyze usage patterns in reports available over web. Up to five of these allocation codes can be predefined according to the manufacturing environment. Items can be dispensed or returned to the SmartDrawer in Absolute Control® mode or Line-Item Control mode
SmartDrawer is manufactured by US-based SupplyPro, Inc., the global leader in Point-Of Use automation technology, and is available worldwide through Seco Tools. Seco offers a number of flexible programs to acquire SmartDrawer. Seco is also certified to provide global support for SupplyPro systems.
Another option available from SupplyPro and Seco is the SupplyBay Plus, a rugged, industrial-grade vending system. Like the SmartDrawer, SupplyBay is versatile and is designed to provide faultless dispensing of items such as cutting tools and cutting tool accessories. All items are dispensed from SupplyBay in Absolute Control® mode.
SmartDrawer and SupplyBay are powered by the SupplyPort, SupplyPro's robust web-based data management engine. The SupplyPort collects and processes transaction data, controls inventory levels and manages automatic replenishment orders. Seco Tools maintains an automated electronic order gateway to receive these orders thus providing a seamless reordering service for its customers who use the SmartDrawer and SupplyBay Plus.
Accurate, timely reports are available from any PC, laptop or other browser-enabled device such as a PDA or mobile phone. Automated alerts can be sent when stock falls below a pre-defined level, usage patterns change or when other critical events occur.
Over the past five years, Seco Tools has helped its customers world wide to achieve dramatic cost-savings, cost control and productivity improvements by implementing SupplyPro automated Point-Of-Use dispensing systems. Among Seco customers now using SupplyBay and SmartDrawer technologies are Singapore Aerospace Manufacturing, Messier-Dowty, Rolls Royce, Dana Corporation and John Deere. |
